Rural Prosperity Policy Analyst

Overall Responsibility:

The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Rural Prosperity Policy Analyst to support its policy efforts focused on strengthening rural America. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Rural Prosperity Policy, the Rural Prosperity Policy Analyst will contribute to the development of policy materials, track legislative and regulatory activity, and support communications efforts focused on advancing economic opportunity, infrastructure development, and community resilience in rural communities.

This includes issues related to rural economic development, agriculture and food systems, energy production, workforce development, healthcare access, infrastructure expansion, and regulatory reform affecting rural communities. This position is ideal for a policy professional with strong research and writing skills who is eager to advance in principled, America First, mission-driven policy work.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct policy research and analysis on conservative policy solutions that support rural prosperity, including rural economic development, agriculture policy, energy development, workforce and skills training, rural healthcare access, infrastructure modernization, and regulatory reform
  • Develop policy proposals that strengthen rural economies by promoting local opportunity, private sector investment, and reduced regulatory burdens
  • Draft memos, policy briefs, fact sheets, model legislative language, and longer-form publications under the guidance of the Deputy Director
  • Track and analyze federal and state legislative and regulatory developments impacting rural communities, agriculture, and rural economic growth
  • Support the drafting of op-eds, testimony, talking points, and communications materials in coordination with the Communications team
  • Participate in internal and external briefings, coalition meetings, and public forums, representing AFPI’s mission and rural prosperity priorities professionally
  • Provide general support to the rural prosperity policy team, including research assistance, editing, and coordination of interns’ work

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated alignment with AFPI’s mission and a strong commitment to advancing America First policy solutions that strengthen rural communities
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy, economics, agriculture policy, rural development, political science, or a related field preferred
  • 3–6 years of experience in rural policy, agriculture policy, economic development, energy policy, or related fields, ideally within policy organizations, government, think tanks, or research institutions
  • Strong analytical writing and editing ability, with the capacity to translate complex policy issues into clear, persuasive, and well-reasoned recommendations
  • Working knowledge of federal and state policies affecting rural economies, agriculture, infrastructure, and workforce development
