Paralegal
Overall Responsibility:
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) is seeking a highly organized and mission-driven Paralegal to support the Legal and Policy divisions. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Paralegal will play a critical role in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, supporting policy research, and maintaining efficient legal operations across the Institute. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of public policy, constitutional principles, and legal advocacy, helping advance AFPI’s commitment to freedom, limited government, and the rule of law. A strong understanding of legal processes, document management, and research methods is essential.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide administrative and legal support to the General Counsel and other members of the Legal and Policy teams.
- Draft, review, and proofread a variety of legal documents including contracts, memoranda, compliance reports, and policy briefs.
- Conduct legal research on federal and state laws, court rulings, and regulatory matters relevant to AFPI’s policy portfolio.
- Monitor ongoing litigation and regulatory developments that may impact AFPI’s mission and operations.
- Maintain organized legal files and ensure proper recordkeeping practices in accordance with internal standards.
- Assist in preparing presentations, exhibits, and background materials for internal and external use.
- Support compliance initiatives, including corporate filings, governance documentation, and ethics disclosures.
- Help coordinate responses to legal requests, subpoenas, or government inquiries, in collaboration with external counsel when necessary.
- Collaborate across departments—including Communications, Policy, and Development—to ensure legal accuracy and alignment in all Institute outputs.
- Manage project timelines, track deadlines, and support institutional policy development as assigned.

Qualifications:
- A demonstrated commitment to AFPI’s mission and values, including individual liberty, free enterprise, and the U.S. Constitution
- Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Political Science, or a related field; a Paralegal Certificate or relevant legal training is strongly preferred
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in a legal, policy, or regulatory environment—ideally within a law firm, government, or public policy institute
- Strong legal research and writing skills, with experience using LexisNexis, Westlaw, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory processes related to nonprofit and public policy organizations
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, integrity, and professionalism
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case/document management systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams
