AFPI Urges Supreme Court to Reject Arbitrary Firearm Feature Bans in Viramontes v. Cook County
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) filed an amicus brief today urging the U.S. Supreme Court to protect the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans. At issue is whether the Second and Fourteenth Amendments guarantee the right to possess AR-15 platform and similar semiautomatic rifles. The Court will hear arguments in Viramontes v. Cook County during its upcoming term which begins next month.

AFPI Releases “Back the Blue,” a Policy Roadmap to Strengthen America’s Law Enforcement Workforce
Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released Back the Blue: A Policy Roadmap for Better-Staffed, Better-Supported Law Enforcement, a new policy paper examining America’s law enforcement staffing crisis and outlining solutions for recruiting, retaining, and supporting law enforcement officers around the country.

Back the Blue: A Policy Roadmap for Better Staffed, Better Supported Law Enforcement
“Many of the best parts of America’s history would have been impossible without police. All the freedoms we enjoy — freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from fear — sit on a foundation of public safety” (Bratton, 2015). These words were spoken by William Bratton, the current Co-Chair of the Homeland Security Advisory Council and the former commissioner of six police departments, including Boston, Los Angeles, and New York. Commissioner Bratton couldn’t be more spot on: prosperity is impossible without public safety, and public safety is impossible without police.

House Passes Kayleigh’s Law to Give Victims Lifetime Protection from Their Abusers
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for the bipartisan passage of the Kayleigh’s Law Act of 2026 (H.R. 8481) by voice vote. Kayleigh’s law requires federal courts to issue, at a victim’s request, a lifetime no-contact order against anyone convicted of a federal sex crime or violent felony—protection that stays in place no matter when the offender’s prison term, probation, or supervised release ends.

Court’s Landmark National Firearms Act Ruling Affirms AFPI Research
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) welcomes the historic ruling in Jensen v. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which is now in effect after the Department of Justice declined to appeal. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas held that key provisions of the National Firearms Act (NFA) can no longer be enforced after Congress eliminated the transfer tax on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns. For the first time in 92 years, law-abiding Americans can now purchase suppressors without having to go through the NFA transfer process.
