Dirk Vande Beek serves as AFPI’s Senior Director of Campaigns and Strategic Communications. Dirk is a veteran communications and government relations executive with over 40 years of experience.
Dirk served as the Director of Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy and as the Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during the first Trump Administration. He began his career in Washington, D.C. working as a junior researcher in the speechwriter’s office for the Secretary of Labor and worked as a Chief of Staff in the U.S. House of Representatives. Dirk received the Distinguished Service Medal and the Outstanding Service Medal for his service in government.
He also held multiple communications and government relations leadership roles in the private sector at various companies including Stanley, Black & Decker, Travelport, Computer Associates, The Coca-Cola Company and Halliburton.
Dirk is from Santa Barbara, California and holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Westmont College. He loves to travel and has visited over 50 countries. He lives in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia and is a proud father of two.
