AI Policy Analyst
Overall Responsibility:
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented AI Policy Analyst to support its AI and Emerging Technology team. Reporting to the Director of AI and Emerging Technology, the AI Policy Analyst will contribute to the development of policy materials, track legislative activity, and support communications efforts related to AI and Emerging Technology—particularly at the nexus of AI and national security. This position is ideal for a policy professional with strong research and writing skills who is eager to shape meaningful policy through a mission-driven organization.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct policy research and analysis on issues related to AI, with an emphasis on national security issues, including how AI interacts with cybersecurity, opportunities for AI adoption throughout the government, and how AI progress relates to geopolitical competition
- Draft memos, policy briefs, fact sheets, and longer-form publications under the guidance of the Director
- Track federal and state legislative and regulatory developments relevant to AI
- Support the drafting of op-eds, talking points, and communications materials in coordination with the Communications team
- Assist in the development of AFPI’s annual policy agenda and contribute to ongoing strategic planning for the policy vertical
- Participate in internal and external policy briefings, forums, and meetings, representing AFPI’s mission and priorities professionally
- Provide general support to the AI and Emerging Technology team, including coordination of interns’ work, research assistance, and editing

Qualifications:
- Demonstrated alignment with AFPI’s mission, including a strong belief in the importance of innovation, human flourishing, and national security
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy, political science, law, national security, or a related field preferred
- 3–6 years of experience in AI policy or national security, ideally within government, think tanks, or public policy organizations
- Strong analytical writing and editing ability, including the ability to synthesize technical information about AI and the capacity to produce clear, well-sourced work product under deadlines
- Ability to navigate complex and continuously evolving political environments
- Ability to synthesize complex technical information about AI, understand its strategic implications for national security, and produce implementable policy recommendations
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with comfort managing multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
- Experience monitoring legislation and policy developments at the federal or state level
- Professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion when handling sensitive policy matters
