AFPI Statement on Second Georgia Lawmaker Charged with Pandemic Unemployment Fraud
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Rebecca Yardley, Georgia Director at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), issued the following statement regarding federal charges against former Georgia State Representative Karen Bennett for allegedly obtaining unemployment benefits fraudulently during the COVID-19 pandemic: "The case of Karen Bennett marks the second instance of a Georgia state lawmaker being charged with abuse of unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic in less than two months. These allegations are deeply troubling and a slap in the face to the taxpayers of Georgia.

AFPI Statement on Alarming Reports of Welfare Fraud and Misuse of Taxpayer Funds in Minnesota
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Brett Tolman, Chair for Law and Justice at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), issued the following statement regarding recent investigative reporting that uncovered widespread welfare fraud, financial exploitation, and potential national-security risks tied to Minnesota’s social-service programs: “The findings revealed in City Journal are deeply troubling. They point to systemic failures in oversight that have allowed taxpayer-funded programs to be exploited on a massive scale, with reports indicating that millions of dollars in welfare funds allegedly were stolen and, in some cases, possibly funneled abroad through unregulated financial networks that may ultimately benefit terrorist organizations.

Backing Governor Abbott’s Bold Public Safety Task Force
Throughout the nation, two visions for law enforcement are unfolding. On one hand, liberals like Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson are creating “ICE Free Zones” in an attempt to expel federal law enforcement from doing their job. Worse than a lack of cooperation, federal agents are facing active resistance from governors and mayors. Members of Congress are showing up at ICE facilities to protest and attempt to force their way into the facilities. The federal government is asking for a permanent city perimeter around the South Portland ICE building due to violent and belligerent protestors. Still, Portland Mayor Keith Wilson decided instead to remove the temporary perimeter and replace it with nothing.

Indiana AG Files Lawsuit to Stop “Sanctuary” School District Policies that Obstruct Federal Immigration Enforcement
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita today filed a lawsuit against Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), alleging that the district has adopted and maintained policies that violate state law by obstructing cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. The complaint seeks an injunction to end IPS’s “sanctuary” policies, which prevent school employees from voluntarily assisting federal immigration authorities, even in cases involving potential family reunification or the safety of unaccompanied minors.
