Senior Advisor, Office for Fiscal and Regulatory Analysis
Overall Responsibility:
This position will serve as a key senior member of AFPI's Office for Fiscal and Regulatory Analysis (OFRA) team. The Senior Advisor will lead OFRA's work in policy verticals across fiscal, regulatory, government efficiency, and other areas, working with OFRA leadership on strategy and with Research Engineers on execution. This position would be a good fit for those passionate about developing and deploying their expertise at scale in a variety of policy areas.

Reports to: Executive Director of OFRA
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Take ownership of policy questions end to end, from problem framing through deployed tooling;
- Lead a team of Research Engineers working in the vertical; set technical direction, review work, and grow the team's capability over time;
- Maintain hands-on contribution as a Research Engineer, which entails quantitative policy research and software engineering, with substantial use of agentic AI, to develop and deploy solutions end to end;
- Support OFRA leadership with cross-cutting research efforts;
- Communicate with policy clients on priorities and strategies;
- Mentor junior OFRA staff;
- Clearly champion AFPI's servant leadership culture;
- Operate with discretion in an environment that requires information security.

- The rest of the OFRA team;
- Other economic and technical teams at AFPI;
- Support staff;
- Interns.

Qualifications:
- 8+ years of relevant quantitative or policy research experience after PhD degree or equivalent;
- Deep expertise in one or more public policy areas;
- Deep expertise in econometrics, statistics, simulations, machine learning, or deep learning;
- Demonstrated ability to lead a technical team: setting direction, reviewing work, growing people, and maintaining standards;
- A track record of taking complex policy questions and turning them into systems that scale;
- Strong programming ability in common programming languages;
- Experience with team-based software development and principles;
- Familiarity with managing resources on at least one major cloud platform;
- Familiarity with frontier AI models, and experience managing AI agents to accomplish substantive engineering tasks at scale;
- An interest in or experience with interdisciplinary research is a plus;
- A deep quantitative integrity and respect for the scientific process;
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills (both oral and written);
- Ability to maintain productive, collaborative, and collegial relationships with staff and external stakeholders and uphold the public reputation of the organization;
- An entrepreneurial mindset that seeks out new opportunities to grow and advance the mission of AFPI.
