AFPI Applauds Ohio Legislature’s Decision to Protect Minors

Jennifer Bauwens, Ph.D. October 29, 2025

Columbus, OH— Today, Dr. Jennifer Bauwens, Director of American Values at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), released the following statement in response to the Ohio House Judiciary Committee’s hearing on prohibiting nudity and sexual conduct in public:

“One of the most fundamental duties of government is to protect its most vulnerable citizens. Children are impressionable and innocent, and exposure to sexually charged environments or performances are unacceptable under any circumstance. Such exposure breaks critical social boundaries, confuses children about what is appropriate, and conditions them to view public displays of sexual behavior as normal.”

“Being subjected to adult content can not only permanently damage their psychological and emotional well-being, it also puts them at risk for exploitation. When children are taught to view sexual acts as routine, they become vulnerable to manipulation by adults who prey on their confusion.”

“The America First Policy Institute strongly believes minors should not be exposed to public indecency or sexualized adult entertainment. This type of conduct is epitomized at drag performances.”

We are grateful that the Ohio legislature is engaging this issue directly in order to prioritize the health, safety and wellness of our children.
