AFPI Experts: Memphis Safe Task Force Leads the Way on Stopping Crime
Washington, D.C.—The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s visit to Memphis to highlight the Memphis Safe Task Force, a coordinated federal, state, and local initiative that is reducing violent crime and restoring public safety.
Since its launch in September 2025, the task force has made more than 7,400 arrests, seized over 1,200 firearms from violent offenders, and safely located over 150 missing children. As a result, crime in Memphis has plummeted more than 43% year-over-year, including a more than 50% decline in robbery, nearly 70% drop in motor vehicle theft, and a 35% reduction in homicides.
Thomas Lane, AFPI Director for Election Integrity and American Justice Campaign Director said:
“The results in Memphis are clear: when leaders prioritize law and order and back it up with real enforcement, crime drops and communities are safer. The Memphis Safe Task Force has taken thousands of criminals off the streets, reduced gang activity, and helped deliver dramatic reductions in violent crime.
This is what works. Coordinated federal, state, and local action combined with strong leadership can restore safety in even the hardest-hit cities. AFPI will continue to support policies that empower law enforcement officers, target violent offenders, and protect Americans.”
