AFPI Releases New Civics Education Research Report Ahead of America 250

Michael Shires February 17, 2026

Washington, D.C.—The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) has released a new research report titled, “Restoring Civics Education to Revitalize our Republic,” in anticipation of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.

The report describes a decline in civic education and how this has contributed to division in our nation.

“As we near this monumental birthday for our country, unfortunately, many young Americans are not being taught our history,” said Dr. Michael Shires, vice chair for Education Opportunity at AFPI. “They are not being educated on how our government works, or their role as citizens in the political process. We must teach them how to steward this great nation, so it can survive an additional 250 years.”

Toplines from the report are available (here).
