AFPI Releases The Veterans First Agenda
WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released a new issue brief, The Veterans First Agenda: Expanding Access and Improving Care for America’s Heroes, under the America First Warfighters Coalition. This brief outlines reforms to improve veterans’ healthcare by expanding access, strengthening patient choice, and increasing accountability across the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system.
While the VA has made notable strides through measures like the MISSION Act, too many veterans continue to face long wait times, limited provider access, and unnecessary bureaucratic barriers when seeking care, challenges rooted in Obama and Biden-era policies. The Veterans First Agenda offers policy recommendations to restore the promise of the MISSION Act, modernize community care, and ensure veterans receive the timely, high-quality healthcare they have earned through their service.
“America’s veterans fulfilled their commitment to our nation, and our nation must honor our commitment to them,” said The Honorable Robert Wilkie, AFPI’s Chair of American Security and the tenth Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) under President Trump. “The Veterans First Agenda expands healthcare choice, improves accountability, and ensures access to the world class care they earned and deserve.”
The America First Warfighters is a new coalition dedicated to educating, engaging, and mobilizing veterans and military families around policies that strengthen military readiness, improve veterans' healthcare, support military families, and ensure America remains the strongest and most prepared fighting force in the world.
