AFPI Responds to the Ratepayer Protection Pledge
Washington, D.C.—Ted Ellis, Deputy Director of Energy and Environment and Campaign Director of Power America at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement in response to the Ratepayer Protection Pledge unveiled at the White House, committing data centers to building their own power, paying full price for any power they need delivered, and contributing to reliability, resilience, and workforce developments in the communities they call home.
"AFPI strongly supports policies such as the Ratepayer Protection Pledge that ensure Americans have access to affordable electricity while paving the way for the United States to continue leading the world in artificial intelligence. As cloud computing data centers and AI become an increasingly large share of our nation’s electric system, it is critical to keep costs low for consumers while enabling hyperscalers to build the power infrastructure they need. America’s abundant supply of reliable and affordable fuels, including natural gas, uranium, and coal, indicates that hyperscalers have the resources necessary to power their technologies. By following the pledge, data centers can assure that taxpayers and everyday ratepayers are not left footing the bill.”
