AFPI Statement on the End of the Government Shutdown
Washington, D.C.—Today, Greg Sindelar, Interim President and CEO of the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), issued the following statement after Congress voted to reopen the federal government:
“After the longest shutdown in our nation’s history, it’s encouraging to see Congress finally fulfilling their duty to the American people by reopening the government. For 43 days, radicals in Congress held the nation hostage to push taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens while vital national security operations, food assistance, and air travel were unnecessarily disrupted. Families dependent on critical programs and federal employees were caught in the crossfire of political weaponization and partisan gamesmanship. The American people deserve better than to be treated as bargaining chips, and this reopening was long overdue.
President Trump’s leadership was instrumental in bringing this standoff to an end, putting the needs of Americans above partisan politics and forcing Washington to act.
As the government reopens, we must rededicate ourselves to restoring stability, rebuilding trust, and advancing commonsense, America First policies that protect, secure, and strengthen this great nation.”
