AFPI Supports Removal of Penalties Against Gas-Powered Vehicles
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) issued the following statement in support of the White House’s announcement to revise U.S. fuel efficiency standards. This new rule will reset Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, removing penalties for manufacturing gas-powered vehicles and saving American consumers $109 billion.
“President Trump’s decision to reset CAFE standards is a clear win on affordability for American drivers and U.S. manufacturing. The previous administration used CAFE to push an expensive, de facto electric-vehicle mandate that the American people did not ask for. This announcement puts the law back in line with reality and with the people, especially rural Americans, who actually buy and build cars, not the activists who write comment letters,” said Jason Hayes, Policy Director for Energy & the Environment
Hayes continued, “Replacing unreasonable mileage targets with standards that can be met using proven gasoline and diesel technology will return this program to its original purpose. This reset will prohibit regulators from using obscure rules to make traditional vehicles unaffordable and to artificially steer the market toward unwanted EVs and foreign-controlled battery supply chains.”
AFPI applauds President Trump, Secretary Duffy, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for defending consumer choice, American energy dominance, and America’s automotive industry.
