AFPI Urges Congress: Stop Forcing Americans to Pay for Abortions

Washington, D.C.—Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), urged Congress to stop using taxpayer dollars to fund abortions.

60 percent of Americans, across party lines, oppose using taxpayer dollars to fund abortions,” said Dr. Rich Rogers, vice chair for American Values at AFPI. “For decades, the Hyde Amendment honored this principle by ensuring federal taxpayer dollars were not used for abortions. Hyde reflects the will of the American people and their broad opposition to being forced to subsidize procedures that may violate their moral convictions.”

Hannah Anderson, director for Healthy America at AFPI, added:

“Massive federal health care programs like Obamacare abandoned Hyde-like protections despite costing taxpayers a hundred billion dollars each year. At the time of its passage, the failure to include Hyde protections was so egregious that all pro-life Republicans and many pro-life Democrats voted against the legislation.”

AFPI urges Congress, as it addresses reforms to Obamacare, to reject policies that funnel federal taxpayer dollars toward abortion and instead advance a patients-first, pro-family agenda that respects taxpayers, upholds conscience protections and strengthens the next generation of Americans.
