AFPI Welcomes Rear Admiral (USCG, Ret.) Peter J. Brown as Senior Fellow

Joshua Treviño July 3, 2025

Washington D.C.— The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) is proud to announce that Rear Admiral (USCG, Ret.) Peter J. Brown, MS, JD, has joined the Western Hemisphere Initiative as Senior Fellow for Western Hemisphere Security and Maritime Affairs.

A decorated U.S. Coast Guard officer and former Deputy Assistant to President Trump for National Security Affairs (Homeland Security & Counterterrorism Advisor), Brown brings decades of experience in national security, international engagement, and countering transnational organized crime. From commanding operations across the Caribbean and Pacific approaches to the United States to coordinating federal disaster response in Puerto Rico, Brown has proven himself as a warrior for American interests.

“Pete Brown has spent his entire career standing the watch for our nation—defending our borders, confronting transnational threats, and forging the kind of strategic partnerships that keep our people safe and our nation sovereign,” said Joshua Treviño, Senior Fellow for the Western Hemisphere Initiative. “His appointment strengthens AFPI’s mission to reassert U.S. leadership in our own hemisphere, and his experience, judgment, and commitment to the America First vision make him an indispensable asset at a critical moment.”

In this role, Brown will advance AFPI’s work on maritime and regional security, advancing the Initiative’s mission to reassert U.S. primacy across the hemisphere and counter the growing reach of communist China, transnational criminal organizations, and corrupt authoritarian regimes. From his base in South Florida—America’s frontline for Latin America and the Caribbean—he will engage with U.S. and allied military, law enforcement, academic, and diplomatic institutions to develop bold, actionable policies that defend U.S. sovereignty and promote regional stability.

“It is an honor to join the patriotic team at AFPI and to contribute to reasserting United States leadership in the Western Hemisphere and rebuilding the confidence of neighboring nations that choose shared values of freedom, democracy and national sovereignty,” said Rear Admiral Brown, adding, “For too long, the globalist foreign policy establishment has overlooked and neglected the importance of sound relationships with our nearest neighbors. The Western Hemisphere Initiative promises to restore needed focus and attention to the region, and I am pleased to engage in my new mission.”

AFPI’s Western Hemisphere Initiative continues to lead the charge against failed globalist foreign policies that have weakened our borders, empowered cartels, and opened the door to hostile powers. With leaders like Rear Admiral Brown, AFPI is ensuring that the defense of the homeland begins where it should: right here in the Western Hemisphere.
