Americans Wait for Refunds While Radicals Play Politics for Illegal Aliens

Washington, D.C.—Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) issued the following statement from Jill Homan, Deputy Director, Trade & Economy Policy, and Campaign Director, regarding the ongoing government shutdown:

“Millions of Americans are being forced to wait for their own tax refunds and essential IRS services while radicals in Congress continue to hold the government hostage. Families counting on their refunds to pay bills, cover medical expenses, or save for college are left in uncertainty because their political games take priority over the needs of hardworking citizens.

All of this is happening as a result of demands that liberal policies like taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens are included in order to reopen the government. American families shouldn’t have to bear the costs of a government shutdown while Washington prioritizes handouts for those who broke our laws.

It’s time for Congress to put Americans first, reopen the government, and restore the services millions of families rely on every year. No family should be caught in the crossfire of partisan politics, and no taxpayer should see their hard-earned money used to fund benefits for those here illegally.”
