Chad Wolf joined NewsNation to discuss the assassination attempt and USSS investigation.
Former Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf recently appeared on NewsNation to discuss the Secret Service’s response to a recent assassination attempt. Wolf emphasized that the Secret Service (USSS) bears ultimate responsibility for the safety and security of the President, regardless of the involvement of other law enforcement agencies. He highlighted that during such events, the Secret Service relies on local law enforcement for support, but if local resources are insufficient, the Secret Service must compensate to ensure complete security coverage.
Wolf pointed out several critical concerns about the incident, particularly the apparent lack of typical security measures such as vehicles, semi-trailers, and flags, which are usually present to obstruct potential threats. He raised questions about whether the lack of these resources was due to local authorities not providing them or other reasons that need to be quickly addressed. According to Wolf, these questions must be answered promptly, within days, to understand if it was a resource issue or a failure in coordination.
This incident underscores the essential role of the Secret Service in protecting national leaders and the importance of timely, thorough investigations to address security lapses and prevent future threats.
