Gateway Tunnel Review in Limbo as Progressive Extremists Push Healthcare for Illegal Aliens During Government Shutdown
Washington, D.C.—Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) issued the following statement from Matthew Rooney, Executive Director of AFPI’s New Jersey State Chapter, regarding the Gateway Tunnel project amid the ongoing government shutdown:
“Progressive extremists in the Senate are holding the government hostage to push taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens while critical infrastructure projects that serve hundreds of thousands of commuters are left in limbo.
The Gateway Tunnel, connecting New Jersey and New York, supports about 200,000 daily riders and thousands of jobs across both states. Now, amid the government shutdown, federal funding is stuck in traffic just like the Garden State residents who depend on this vital link.
The radicals’ priorities couldn’t be clearer: fund healthcare for those who broke our laws instead of ensuring American workers and taxpayers get the infrastructure and services they rely on. It’s time for these bad actors to stop the political games, reopen the government, and put the American people first.”
