Here Are the Facts: Under the Left’s Plan, Illegal Aliens Receive Taxpayer-Funded Healthcare

Cooper Smith October 7, 2025

“Members of Congress are not being honest with the American people on the key issue of illegal aliens receiving healthcare as part of the ongoing federal government shutdown debate. Just last week, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) told the American people that ‘the idea this is illegal immigrants getting free healthcare is not true.

Here are the facts: The Working Families Tax Cuts Act, also known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” eliminated Medicaid, Medicare, and State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) eligibility for parolees. The bill also eliminated eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits to parolees, aliens with deferred action, aliens with deferred enforced departure, and aliens with Temporary Protected Status. None of these categories of aliens has legal status in the United States.

Members of Congress who deny this are just playing word games. They say ‘parolees,’ ‘temporary protected,’ or ‘deferred action’ to make it appear as if these aliens have legal status. They don’t. These are all categories for people who have no lawful immigration status in the United States—and the American people shouldn’t have to pay for their healthcare services. During the Biden administration, so-called “status” was illegally granted to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and many more were shielded from deportation proceedings. These policies are exactly what led to the border crisis the American people endured for four years.

President Trump and Congress ended taxpayer-funded healthcare for these illegal aliens—and now, liberals are holding the government hostage to bring those benefits back. It doesn’t matter what label politicians put on it: if you’re in the country unlawfully, you should not receive benefits paid for by American taxpayers.”
