Judge Blocks Layoffs of Non-Essential Workers as Shutdown Drags On, While Liberals Push Healthcare for Illegal Aliens

October 17, 2025

Washington, D.C.—Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) issued the following statement regarding the ongoing government shutdown:

“This week, a federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s planned mass layoffs of non-essential federal employees during the government shutdown.

The administration had sought to streamline bureaucracy at a time when liberals in Congress refuse to reopen the government, insisting instead on funding healthcare for illegal aliens. In both cases—paying for illegal healthcare and keeping so-called ‘nonessential’ workers on the payroll—the real cost is borne by American taxpayers.

Liberals in Congress must act to reopen the government and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent on American citizens—not illegal aliens. In the meantime, as a courtesy to the American people, they should not continue paying workers who are literally labeled ‘nonessential.’”
