Liberals Have Shut Down the Government, Leaving Farmers Out to Dry
Washington, D.C.— Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) issued the following statement from Tate Bennett, Director of Rural Policy at AFPI, regarding the ongoing government shutdown:
“Farmers and ranchers, those who feed and clothe our great nation and world, don't just get to shut down, so neither should the taxpayer-funded federal government. Key disaster assistance, rural development activities, agricultural research, and trade negotiations, including those advancing new markets for farmers, are grinding to a halt.”
“Instead, bad actors in Congress are holding these activities crucial to rural America hostage over radical Obamacare handouts they forced through during COVID with no bipartisan support. These so-called ‘subsidies’ cost taxpayers billions, are riddled with waste and fraud, and do nothing to lower Americans’ healthcare bills. Shutting down the government over such policies is reckless—and all Americans, including rural Americans, are paying the price."
