Sec. Rick Perry outlines how the Biden Admin’s policies will continue to harm American prosperity.
Former Energy Secretary Rick Perry appeared on CNBC's The Exchange to discuss the Biden Administration's recent decision to pause new LNG export projects. Perry argued that this move, which the administration claims addresses the climate crisis, will instead harm American prosperity and benefit adversaries like Russia.
Perry emphasized that halting LNG projects will lead to an increase in coal plant usage, particularly in Europe, as nations seek to keep their lights on amidst gas supply disruptions. He highlighted that this shift to coal undermines the administration's climate goals and will result in significant economic repercussions, including job losses in states like Texas, Louisiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Criticizing the administration's approach, Perry suggested that the decision is politically motivated to gain favor with environmentalists, rather than being based on sound policy. He also pointed out that such unilateral actions, taken without congressional approval, often do not reflect the will of the American people.
Perry stressed the broader geopolitical implications, arguing that reducing American LNG exports weakens the support of European allies, making them more dependent on Russian energy. He called for a balanced energy policy that supports both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
