AFPI Launches Investigation into PG&E’s Potter Valley Hydroelectric Project Decommissioning
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) today announced that it has launched an investigation into Pacific Gas & Electric Company’s (PG&E) decision to decommission the PotterValley Hydroelectric Project, a move that could have significant consequences for the water supply, agricultural economy, energy reliability, and wildfire preparedness in one of America’s most productive agricultural regions.

Comment in Support of Proposed Rule, “Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act of 1978”
The America First Policy Institute submits these comments through its China Policy Initiative, which researches foreign adversary ownership of American agricultural land and agricultural infrastructure and has published on the matters addressed in this rulemaking. We write in support of the Department of Agriculture’s (hereafter "Department” or “USDA”) proposed revisions to the regulations implementing the Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act of 1978 (AFIDA), and we urge the Department to finalize the rule with its adversary-specific provisions intact. The proposed rule rests on a correct and long-overdue conclusion: The national security risk presented by foreign holdings of American agricultural land is a function of the identity, location, and control structure of the holder rather than a function of acreage, and ultimately of whether said holder answers to an adversary government.

Flesh-eating screwworm horror hits US cattle, but Trump’s USDA was ready to fight
The New World Screwworm (NWS) recently was found in American cattle and has gone from a threat moving northward to a near and present danger for U.S. livestock producers. The most effective tool against NWS is also one of the simplest: releasing sterile flies that mate with wild screwworms and collapse the population over time. It is a proven strategy, but it requires planning, infrastructure, and international cooperation long before a crisis reaches our border.
