STATEMENT: America First Applauds the House of Representatives for Fighting for the Unborn

January 19, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Brooke Rollins, President and CEO of the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), released the following statement regarding two bills passed by the United States House of Representatives that protect the sanctity of life and support vulnerable women and children:

“As we celebrate the next steps of the pro-life movement throughout the month of January, we applaud the House of Representatives for adopting pro-care bills to protect pregnancy resource centers, expectant mothers, and the unborn.

With the People’s House passing the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act, Congress is working to block the Biden Administration from using the full weight of the deep state to demonize pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) with new proposed rules. The Biden Administration’s latest Health and Human Services rule would prohibit PRCs from receiving federal funding under Temporary Assistance for Needy Families block grant programs, cutting off a vital funding stream for diapers, parenting classes, and even prenatal vitamins for some of the most vulnerable women in our society. Passing this bill is a critical step toward shielding these organizations from this unconstitutional targeting and ensuring their critical work, care, and assistance continue seamlessly.

Congress has also moved to protect pregnant college students with the adoption of the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act. The bill would require universities to disclose the protections and rights to which pregnant students on college campuses are entitled. Informing pregnant students helps equip expectant mothers, allowing them to reject the artificial choice between motherhood and higher education. This proposal is pro-woman and helps support moms as they choose life.

We’re so pleased to see these bills pass the House of Representatives and would encourage the Senate to consider them as soon as possible. A special thank you to Congresswomen Ashley Hinson (IA-02) and Michelle Fischbach (MN-07) for their efforts to protect the unborn and support moms. Together, we will never stop fighting for life.”
