The America First Policy Institute Applauds University of Virginia Decision to End Discriminatory Policies
The America First Policy Institute applauds yesterday’s decision by the University of Virginia to protect the civil rights of students, faculty, and staff by eliminating discriminatory processes that consider race, sex, and national origin. This is the latest example of the Trump Administration’s success in ensuring that everyone has equal access to university programs and is treated fairly.
"We congratulate the Department of Justice and the University of Virginia on this important step forward. We urge other institutions nationwide to follow suit and reinvigorate and energize the role of educational institutions as a key part of the American success story," said Dr. Michael Shires, Vice Chair of America First Policy Institute’s Center for Education Opportunity.
Shires continued, "As AFPI's recent report on civil rights articulates, the Administration is protecting civil rights and laying a foundation that will suppress discrimination and 'guarantee equal treatment under the law for all Americans.'"
The Interim President of the University of Virginia, in his statement to the campus community, also recommitted the university to the principles of academic freedom, ideological diversity, free expression and the unyielding pursuit of ‘truth, wherever it may lead.’” This reaffirms the Trump Administration’s efforts to restore America’s universities to greatness in an era of declining public support and confidence.
