The Radical Left’s Shutdown Puts Americans Last, Illegals First

Washington, D.C.—Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) issued the following statement regarding the ongoing government shutdown from Senior Director of Policy and Director for a Healthy America Hannah Anderson, Senior Advisor for Homeland Security and Immigration Julie Kirchner, and Director of Homeland Security and Immigration Cooper Smith:

“Radical Leftists shut down the government because they want hardworking Americans to foot the bill for illegal immigrants’ healthcare.

It’s not America First to let vulnerable Americans suffer to give illegal immigrants healthcare. Their funding bill spends rural health dollars to grant Medicaid to those improperly granted asylum and parole under the Biden administration’s open borders scheme. It requires Medicaid to pay more for emergency care provided to illegal aliens than it does for American patients who are disabled, elderly, or children, and allows California to continue exploiting a loophole to fund Medicaid for illegal aliens. It even reinstates a special Obamacare subsidy for illegals — for which low-income Americans are ineligible. Congress stood up to radical leftists to protect dollars, doctors, and care from being diverted away from vulnerable Americans.

This blatant attempt to prioritize illegal immigrants over Americans must end. It’s time to stop the political games, reopen the government, and put American patients first—not those who entered our country illegally.”
