As a mentor, entrepreneur, and someone who has spent years championing women, one of the greatest joys of hosting Truth Be Told is sharing the stories of women who are lifting others as they climb. This week, I had the privilege of sitting down with my friend Liz Habib, who now leads the Small Business Administration’s (SBA's) Office of Women's Business Ownership. Liz’s journey from Emmy Award-winning journalist and entrepreneur to public servant is proof that every season of our lives shapes us for what comes next. We talked about the real opportunities out there for women ready to launch, grow, or strengthen their businesses—and why backing women entrepreneurs is key to keeping the American Dream alive for all of us!

If there’s one thing I want every woman to hear, it’s this: you don’t need to have it all figured out to get started. Too often, women hold themselves back, waiting for the perfect plan or every answer before they take that leap. But real success comes from learning as you go, from showing up and figuring it out along the way. Liz talked about how the SBA’s Women’s Business Centers are walking alongside women across the country—helping them with business plans, financing, marketing, and mentorship—so they can turn their ideas into thriving businesses with confidence.

We also talked about the grit and resilience I see in women entrepreneurs every day. Some start businesses because they have to, others juggle family and work, and many step boldly into fields where women have always been told they don’t belong. Time and again, women prove that determination, creativity, and hard work can open doors that once seemed locked. When women succeed, they don’t just build businesses—they create jobs, lift up their families, and pour hope back into their communities.

Liz’s story reminds us it’s never too late to start a new chapter. Every challenge, every lesson, every twist in the road can prepare us for opportunities we never saw coming. Sometimes the path forward isn’t what we expected, but it can lead us exactly where we’re meant to go.
