John R. Thomas, Jr.
Senior Fellow, American Security
John R. Thomas, Jr., is a Senior Fellow for American Security at the America First Policy Institute. An experienced attorney, John is a principal of Hafemann Magee & Thomas and focuses on complex federal litigation and national security matters.
John is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. Among his many military active duty and reserve assignments, John has served as a battalion staff officer in Afghanistan, a law of war advisor and instructor, a judge advocate in both prosecutor and defense counsel roles, a military planner in Europe, and currently serves on the Joint Staff. He has served abroad in Afghanistan, Morocco, Germany, the United Kingdom, Norway, and the Arctic.
John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and German from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia School of Law, and a Master of Arts in International Relations from King’s College London. John has also completed a number of military schools, including Naval Justice School, Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and Joint Combined Warfighting School at Joint Forces Staff College. He is the recipient of numerous personal and campaign decorations.
