AFPI Applauds Executive Orders on Gray Wolf Delisting, MCOOL, and Rancher First Actions

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) has issued the following statement in response to the Presidential executive orders initiating the due diligence process for potential delisting of Mexican and Gray Wolves and directing implementation of every executive action that can be taken tied to Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (MCOOL) for beef.

These executive orders are real steps that will help revitalize American beef production and give power back to farmers, ranchers, hunters, rural Americans, and all consumers.

“American ranchers should not have to fear the loss of their cattle, rural Americans should not have to wonder if their horses and pets will be attacked, and the American people should know where their beef comes from,” said Christie Mullin, chair of Rural Policy at AFPI. “Because of big government bureaucracy, beef producers have been unable to protect their herds from this vicious predator. Returning authority over the gray wolf to states will allow the issue to be addressed by the state and local natural resources experts that know their communities best, allowing for more effective wildlife management. On the consumer side, since 2015, Americans have faced uncertainty in labeling at the grocery store. The MCOOL order places power back in the hands of the American people to know when they are buying foreign beef and what their hard-earned money is supporting.”

In addition to these actions, AFPI applauds the United States Department of Agriculture’s Ranchers First actions to ensure private lands remain available for grazing following emergencies, to incentivize heifer retention, revitalize rancher-controlled and local beef processing, and further prioritize beef in federal spending.
