AFPI Applauds U.S. Department of Education Actions to Protect Student Data and Election Integrity
Washington, D.C.—The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) issued the following statement from Thomas Lane, Director of Election Integrity, on the U.S. Department of Education’s decision to launch Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) investigations into Tufts University and the National Student Clearinghouse amid allegations that student data was improperly shared with third parties, including political organizations, to influence elections:
“AFPI applauds the U.S. Department of Education for taking decisive action to protect student privacy and uphold the integrity of U.S. elections.
Students deserve to know their sensitive personal information is being protected—not quietly shared with third parties and weaponized for political targeting.
These investigations and the Department’s updated guidance are an important step toward enforcing FERPA as written and ensuring America’s colleges and universities remain focused on education, not electioneering.”
