AFPI Congratulates Colombia’s President-Elect de la Espriella
Washington, DC — The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) congratulates President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella on his victory in Colombia’s presidential election. We applaud the Colombian people for their strong civic participation and for upholding democratic principles throughout a transparent and orderly electoral process. Last Sunday, Colombian voters faced a choice between two fundamentally different visions for Colombia's future. They chose to turn from the failed policies of the past and embrace optimism, prosperity, and security."
President-elect de la Espriella will take office at a pivotal moment for Colombia, having campaigned on restoring public security, strengthening economic performance, and addressing growing concerns around governance and stability.
"Colombia’s election underscores a clear demand from its citizens for stronger security, effective governance, and real economic opportunity," said Melissa Ford Maldonado, Director of AFPI's Western Hemisphere Initiative.
“We congratulate President-elect de la Espriella on his victory and look forward to working with Colombia at a critical moment for regional security,” said Joshua Trevino, AFPI’s Senior Director of the Western Hemisphere Initiative & Senior Fellow for Europe. “Colombia remains one of the United States’ most important partners in the Western Hemisphere, and continued cooperation will be essential to addressing our shared security challenges.”
The future of Colombia carries significant implications for its citizens and the entire Western Hemisphere.
