Greg Sindelar August 19, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) proudly congratulates organization alumna Dr. Heidi Overton on her nomination by President Trump to serve as the next commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Dr. Heidi Overton is a board-certified physician, was a general surgery resident at Johns Hopkins University, and served as a White House fellow from 2019 to 2020 in both the Office of American Innovation and the Domestic Policy Council. Dr. Overton, a proud New Mexico native, served as vice chair for the Center for a Healthy America and as chief policy officer during her tenure at AFPI, where she spearheaded the organization’s fight to Make America Healthy Again. In 2025, she joined the White House Domestic Policy Council as its deputy director and has worked closely with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to launch the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs), champion Most Favored Nation drug pricing, and overhaul the recommended vaccine regimen for children.

AFPI CEO and President, Greg Sindelar, shared his support for Dr. Overton’s nomination:

“President Trump made an incredible choice in nominating Dr. Heidi Overton for commissioner of the FDA. I had the pleasure of working with Heidi for a number of years, and she was a force to be reckoned with. I know that if confirmed, she will work tirelessly to advance America First priorities to promote healthier living, healthier eating, and healthier medicines for all Americans in this critical agency.”
