AFPI Congratulates Joseph Humire on Appointment to the U.S. Department of Defense

June 9, 2025

Washington D.C.— The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) proudly congratulates Joseph M. Humire — Senior Fellow for the Western Hemisphere Initiative at AFPI on his appointment as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense Integration and Defense Support of Civil Authorities.

Joseph has contributed valuable insights to AFPI’s efforts to defend American interests and values both at home and abroad. As a nationally recognized national security and defense expert with deep knowledge of transregional threats, Mr. Humire has played a key role in exposing the threats posed by authoritarian regimes like China, Russia, and Iran in Latin America and the Caribbean.

His work with AFPI’s Western Hemisphere Initiative reflected a strong commitment to America First foreign policy: one that prioritizes national sovereignty, defending the homeland, countering transnational threats, and reinforces security, prosperity, and stability throughout our hemisphere.

A proud combat veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a seasoned national security strategist, Mr. Humire has dedicated his career to defending the homeland and advancing liberty throughout the Western Hemisphere. His work has been instrumental in helping policymakers recognize the growing influence of America’s adversaries in our own neighborhood and the urgent need to reassert American leadership in the region.

Although his role at AFPI has concluded, Mr. Humire’s legacy of advancing an America First foreign policy in our hemisphere will continue to shape the path forward for the Western Hemisphere Initiative for years to come.

We are grateful for his contributions and confident that he will continue to defend our nation with honor, insight, and unwavering commitment to American values serving under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth.
