AFPI Recognizes 236 Years of the United States Coast Guard Protecting America

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) proudly commemorates the birthday of the United States Coast Guard by honoring the brave men and women who have safeguarded America’s maritime interests since 1790. As the United States confronts an increasingly dangerous global security environment, including continued threats in the waters of our coasts, illegal smuggling operations on those waters, threats to American ports, and escalation in trade and shipping disruptions, the Coast Guard’s mission has never been more essential. From securing America’s ports and maritime borders to helping keep global shipping routes open and secure, the Coast Guard serves on the front lines of our Nation’s security and economic prosperity.

“For 236 years the United States Coast Guard has stood watch over our Nation’s maritime frontiers, protecting the American people and defending the free flow of commerce that underpins our economy,” said Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Keith Kellogg. “As new challenges continue to emerge across the maritime domain, we must ensure the Coast Guard has the resources, capabilities, and support necessary to remain Semper Paratus – Always Ready.”

On the 236th birthday of the U.S. Coast Guard, AFPI joins Americans across the country in expressing our deepest gratitude to the Coast Guardsmen whose courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment continue to protect our homeland, secure our maritime borders, and preserve the freedom and prosperity of the United States.
