AFPI’s Erika Donalds Celebrates School Choice Win in Ohio

Washington D.C.— On June 24, 2025, the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas ruled that the Ohio EdChoice scholarship program is unconstitutional. This Tuesday, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost vowed to appeal the ruling. In response, Erika Donalds, Chair of Education Opportunity at America First Policy Institute, issued the following statement:

“Ohio’s children deserve access to the school that best meets their needs, regardless of zip code or income. I applaud the Ohio General Assembly for boldly standing with families by enacting EdChoice, one of the most expansive school choice laws in the country.

The lower court’s ruling defies more than 25 years of settled Ohio law. I’m confident the Ohio Supreme Court will uphold what parents already know: education freedom is a right worth protecting. Soon, over 100,000 students will have access to the educational opportunities they and their families deserve.”
