America First Nomination: Senator Markwayne Mullin
Senator Markwayne Mullin is a United States Senator representing Oklahoma, a lifelong Oklahoman, successful business owner, working cow-calf rancher, and proud husband to Christie Mullin, who is a part of the AFPI family as Chair for Rural Policy. Together, they have six children: Jayce, Jim, Andrew, Larra, Ivy, and Lynette.
Mullin was sworn into the U.S. Senate on January 3, 2023, after winning a special election to complete the term of former Senator Jim Inhofe, following nearly a decade of service in the U.S. House of Representatives, building a record rooted in hard work, conservative values, and delivering for Oklahoma.
Raised on his family’s ranch in Westville, where he still lives today, Mullin graduated from Stilwell High School and attended Missouri Valley College on a wrestling scholarship. At age 20, he stepped away from school when his father became ill, choosing instead to save and grow the family business, Mullin Plumbing. Over the past three decades, he and Christie built it into one of the largest service companies in the region, while also launching other successful ventures, including Mullin Environmental and Rowan’s Steakhouse.
An enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation, Mullin is the first Tribal citizen to serve in the U.S. Senate in nearly two decades and has been a strong advocate for tribal communities and sovereignty.
In the Senate, Mullin has held key leadership roles, including Chairman of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee on the Senate Appropriations Committee and Chairman of the Employment and Workplace Safety Subcommittee on the Senate HELP Committee. He also serves on the Senate Armed Services and Indian Affairs Committees, where he focuses on national security, the defense industrial base, and tribal issues.
Mullin is also a former undefeated professional MMA fighter and remains active in coaching wrestling. His family shares that passion, including his son Jim, who overcame a traumatic brain injury after a high school match and made a remarkable recovery to wrestle at Oklahoma State.
Senator Mullin has delivered key legislative wins, including advancing policies that support American workers, strengthen national security, and promote American identity—most notably, his bill designating the bald eagle as the national bird of the United States, a fitting symbol of American strength and independence.
