New Small Processors Action Plan Will Help Make Food American Again
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) has issued the following statement from Christie Mullin, Chair of Rural Policy, in response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s announcement of a new plan and funding for small American meat processors:
“Secretary Brooke Rollins’ announcement of a Small Processors Action Plan and of $60M in new funding for meat and poultry processors is critically needed to help increase processing capacity and help independent American producers compete against global producers.
This decisive action clears red tape by updating decades-old regulatory definitions which no longer reflect how American meat and poultry businesses actually operate. These actions will better serve small American processors and will address a number of core issues which have prevented them from growing and increasing capacity, and which has limited access for ranches such as my family’s own and countless other producers. The USDA’s new plan will benefit small businesses, farmers and ranchers, and increase availability of local foods.”
