Shutdown Stalls Election Integrity Oversight as Bureaucrats Block Transparency

Nicholas Wanic November 4, 2025

Washington, D.C.—Today, Nicholas Wanic, Associate Attorney for Litigation at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), issued the following statement regarding the government shutdown’s impact on election integrity efforts:

“The ongoing government shutdown is undermining transparency and accountability in our elections.

At a time when Americans should have the highest confidence in election results, federal agencies are instead unable to process Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and other oversight inquiries pertinent to our elections. Crucial records about election security, voter registration maintenance, and agency coordination with outside organizations are being delayed or lost in bureaucratic limbo.

Election integrity depends on sunlight and accountability. When transparency grinds to a halt, confidence in the system erodes. Americans deserve to know how their elections are being administered instead of being told to wait until Washington decides to reopen.

While radicals in Congress continue to hold the government hostage to push taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens, they’re also blocking the very transparency needed to keep our elections free and fair. The American people deserve better than political games that keep the truth buried.

It’s time to end this shutdown, restore government transparency, and ensure that agencies once again answer to the people instead of partisan agendas.”
