U.S. and Panama Partner to Strengthen Security in Western Hemisphere

Joshua Treviño July 20, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) today released the following statement from Joshua Treviño, senior fellow for the Western Hemisphere Initiative, in response to the Department of War’s partnership with Panama to protect the Western Hemisphere:

“I congratulate President Trump and Secretary Hegseth on strengthening America’s partnerships with liberty-loving nations to secure the Western Hemisphere. The return of the Jungle Operations Training Course to aeronaval base Cristóbal Colón marks an important step toward restoring America’s military presence and partnerships in our own hemisphere. Training alongside our Panamanian hosts will strengthen U.S. combat readiness, deepen regional security cooperation, and help ensure that the Panama Canal remains secure, open, and protected from hostile influence.”
