Sonny Joy Nelson serves as a communications advisor at AFPI. Nelson most recently served at the White House as special assistant to the president and director of media affairs. Her team oversaw local and national TV and radio, along with podcasts. Before her work in the Trump Administration, she was the director of media affairs for the Trump 2024 presidential campaign.

Nelson attended Campbell University in North Carolina, where she was a student-athlete in cheerleading. She earned a Bachelor of Science in health communication and a Bachelor of Arts in broadcasting and electronic media. She now lives in Virginia with her husband, Sam, and two-year-old son, Isaiah, and is expecting another son this fall.
