AFPI Celebrates Wins in the WFTC on Tax Day
WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Tax Day 2026, American families and workers are experiencing the impact of President Trump’s the Working Families Tax Cuts Act (WFTC). Signed into law on July 4, 2025, this historic legislation is delivering wins for working families, small businesses, parents, seniors and farmers across the Nation. AFPI commends President Trump and America First leaders in Congress for putting more money back in the hands of hardworking Americans.
AFPI’s policy leaders released the following statements:
"Because of the President's tax cuts, take home pay has been rising across the entire income spectrum. Likewise, studies show that the ability of the bottom fifth of earners to rise to the top fifth has increased by roughly 50 percent. In other words, growth and opportunity form a rising tide that is lifting all boats.”
“The tax cuts in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act are uniquely designed to help the middle class through tax-free tips, no taxes on overtime, and no taxes on Social Security. Add to that the Trump accounts which help newborns own a piece of the rock and accumulate wealth no matter who they are or where they’re from. This is truly a revival of the American dream.”
“Manufacturing and Main Street America are critically important to the economic and national security of our Nation. With immediate cost expensing for new equipment and manufacturing facilities plus making permanent the tax rates applied to small businesses, the President has unleashed a business investment boom that will return America to its manufacturing roots, building factories, creating private jobs with high wages, and ensuring that we lead the industries of the future." —Larry Kudlow, AFPI Chair of the Board

“Staying healthy, and the associated costs of staying healthy, is top of mind for American families. The Working Families Tax Cuts help make American families healthy again by expanding primary care and health savings accounts, give more Americans access to telehealth, invest a once-in-a-generation amount into rural health, and ensure that Medicaid dollars are not going to those in the country illegally.”
“They also include commonsense protections against waste, fraud, and abuse to protect Medicaid and other federal health programs for the vulnerable women, children, and disabled who depend on it. The Trump Administration is leading the way in making Americans healthy again and protecting the hard-earned tax dollars of the American worker.” —Former Governor Bobby Jindal and Chair of Healthy America at AFPI

“The Working Families Tax Cuts Act achieved historic investments to fortify our borders and maximize deportations of criminal illegal aliens. Since its passage last July, America has hired thousands more frontline Border Patrol and immigration enforcement agents, deployed next-gen technology at the border, eliminated taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens, and enhanced state and local cooperation with federal operations. These are remarkable and necessary achievements following four years of catastrophic open borders policies under President Biden.”
“Ultimately, the Working Families Tax Cut Act delivered on President Trump’s core campaign promise to enforce our immigration laws aggressively and comprehensively. Securing the border and deporting illegal aliens are not optional policies from the federal government – they are the only way to achieve lasting prosperity, security and sovereignty for the American people.” —Chad Wolf, AFPI Chair for Homeland Security & Immigration

"The Working Families Tax Cuts Act ushered in the biggest one-time expansion of school choice in American history. This landmark bill accomplished something no federal law has done before – allowing private donors to put parents at the center of education decisions. The Education Freedom Tax Credit gives every state the opportunity to put millions, and in some cases billions, of additional education dollars to work for students. Every child deserves to love learning in an environment where they thrive academically on a pathway to the American Dream. This bill makes education freedom a reality for millions of families." —Erika Donalds, Chair of Education Opportunity at AFPI

“President Trump went on offense and delivered a huge ‘W’ for the American people. He stopped what would have been a historic tax increase and instead put real money back in the pockets of working families with his Working Family Tax Cuts.”
“Based on AFPI’s estimates, Alabama families with two kids will save on average nearly $6,000 in the 2026 tax year. A plumber family will save about $3,500. And a firefighter family will save nearly over $4,300!”
“That’s strong leadership and it’s exactly how you move America forward. We’re competing, we’re winning, and we’re making this country great again, one family at a time.” —Bruce Pearl, AFPI Senior Fellow for the American Dream

“The WFTC locks in Opportunity Zones as a cornerstone of American economic development and is already driving over $85 billion in investment to communities in need. Without the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, Opportunity Zones would be in jeopardy, but now, OZs will continue to attract capital, create jobs, and uplift underserved communities across the country.”
“Moreover, rural America is taking center stage in Opportunity Zones. With a significant number of eligible rural areas and enhanced incentives, this is a clear opportunity to bring investment to communities that have historically been overlooked." —Jill Homan, Campaign Director for American Revival and Deputy Director for Economy and Trade at AFPI

“The Working Families Tax Cuts delivered essential, hard hitting tax relief for farmers fighting to keep their operations thriving. This support strengthens the foundation for the next generation, empowering young farmers to continue operating and expanding their family farms.”
“By making Death Tax relief permanent, families now have a clearer, fairer path to passing farms, ranches, and small businesses from one generation to the next. At the same time, expanded capital expensing and business income deductions are giving farmers the freedom to invest in critical equipment, new innovations and keep more of the money they earn through their own hard work.” —Kip Tom, AFPI Vice Chair of Rural Policy

“On Tax Day, we recognize the Working Families Tax Cuts for putting hardworking Americans first. This credit not only delivers real relief to families across our country, but it also signals a positive shift away from wasteful subsidies that once propped up offshore wind projects and other green energy initiatives reliant on components from CCP-linked producers.”
“Redirecting these resources back toward families and workers strengthens our economy, reduces foreign dependence, and ensures taxpayer dollars support the American people.” —Ted Ellis, Campaign Director for Power America at AFPI

“President Trump didn’t just defend the line—he opened the whole field. The WFTC has created real paths for every American to win no matter where they come from or what zip code they live in.”
“These WFTC gives Americans across this country a legitimate shot to build wealth, create jobs, and chase the American Dream. America is back on the attack, and every family deserves a chance to run with it.” —Frank Murphy, AFPI Chair of the Athletes for America Coalition

“Women across our Nation are experiencing something powerful this Tax Day: more money in their pockets and renewed respect for their hard work. After years of stretching every dollar, women and families are finally seeing meaningful relief. For those raising families, working long hours, and holding everything together, a larger refund and lower taxes can mean the difference between simply getting by and truly planning for the future.”
“At its core, the Working Families Tax Cuts reflect a deep respect for working Americans. For the millions of women in the service economy who make up nearly two-thirds of tipped workers, this is especially significant. These women balance jobs, children, education, and caregiving responsibilities, and they have earned every dollar they receive.”
“This is what real empowerment looks like: policies that allow women to move forward, support their families, and build a stronger future. We are deeply grateful to this Administration for advancing policies that uplift working families and restore dignity to the American worker.”
“At AFPI, we are committed to ensuring women clearly understand this impact. For many, this tax season is a defining step from getting by to truly getting ahead. It’s a reset for working families across America. And that is something worth celebrating.” —Stacey Schieffelin, Chair of the America First Women’s Initiative and Chief External Affairs Officer at AFPI
