AFPI Commends New Education Department Partnerships to Protect Students & Return Education to the States
Washington, D.C. – Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Erika Donalds, Chair of Education Opportunity, on the U.S. Department of Education's announcement of new partnerships with the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:
"This is what returning education to the states looks like in practice. President Trump and Secretary McMahon promised to end Washington's micromanagement of our classrooms while upholding our commitment to the students the federal government is obligated to protect—and that is exactly what these partnerships deliver.
These agreements, in addition to the ten previously announced, pair each responsibility with the agency best equipped to handle it: DOJ will join efforts enforcing civil rights and student privacy matters. HHS will partner with the department to support special education. Families of children with disabilities can be confident their rights remain fully protected, now with less red tape and stronger results. AFPI commends Secretary McMahon for proving that a leaner federal footprint and faithful enforcement of the law go hand in hand, and for putting America's parents and students first."
