AFPI Hosts Discussion on North Korea, Nuclear Deterrence, and U.S. National Security
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) hosted a special fireside chat on confronting the North Korean nuclear threat and stability in the Indo-Pacific. The event featured Fred Fleitz, AFPI Vice Chair for American Security and included discussion of his newly released book, North Korea, Nuclear Brinkmanship, and the Oval Office.
The event was moderated by Piero Tozzi, AFPI Senior Director for China Policy and co-author of AFPI’s recently released research report, Iran as China's “Counter-Pivot”: The Strategic Implications of Operation Epic Fury for America’s Competition with China. The discussion explored North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, U.S. policy toward the Kim regime, and implications of China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific.
“Recent developments involving Iran serve as a reminder that nuclear threats remain one of the most serious challenges facing the United States,” said Fleitz. “With an estimated 50 nuclear bombs or more today, North Korea’s decades-long pursuit of nuclear weapons offers important lessons for policymakers seeking to deter aggression and safeguard American security.”
AFPI is proud to host discussions that advance thoughtful policy solutions to the nation’s most pressing national security challenges. AFPI also congratulates Fred Fleitz on the release of his new book, North Korea, Nuclear Brinkmanship, and the Oval Office, which is an important contribution to the ongoing conversation surrounding North Korea, nuclear deterrence, and U.S. foreign policy.
