AFPI New Jersey Sounds Alarm on 6,600 Illegal Voter Registrations
TRENTON, NJ - The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) New Jersey Chapter today released the following statement after Governor Mikie Sherrill admitted that New Jersey registered 6,600 illegal aliens to vote between June 2023 and June 2024.
Matthew Rooney, AFPI New Jersey Executive Director, said:
“In her statement, Governor Sherrill acknowledged that this failure occurred under the previous administration and called it unacceptable that no one at the time brought it to light or took action. We agree. This is the largest lapse in election security in state history and we cannot ignore that today’s disclosure came less than one week after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security asked the state to review its voter rolls.”
“The concern now shifts to whether 6,600 illegal registrations are the tip of a much larger iceberg with only three months before another major election. New Jerseyans must demand a thorough and independent probe of our state’s entire election apparatus, starting with a forensic audit of the voter rolls. We are also asking the U.S. Department of Justice to conduct a formal inquiry into whether any laws were broken, either when the illegal aliens were initially registered or in the aftermath of the alleged ‘glitch,’ given that this scandal took two full years to come to light. Nothing short of full transparency and maximum accountability should satisfy the Garden State.”

“New Jersey is the poster child for why election security policies must be prioritized. We live in a ‘sanctuary’ jurisdiction where, every year, thousands of illegal aliens head to Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) locations across all 21 counties and receive driver’s licenses or regular IDs without presenting any proof of citizenship whatsoever. No one should be surprised that our worst fears have been confirmed. New Jersey’s electoral system is primitive and designed to permit fraud.”
“Opponents who insist voter fraud is a myth have been discredited, but if we want to restore the credibility of New Jersey elections, time is of the essence. We need a full audit of the voter rolls and, if anyone committed a crime, the consequences must be swift and severe.”
