AFPI Pennsylvania Calls on PA Auditor General DeFoor to Release Findings from Voter Registration Audit
Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania State Chapter of the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) this week sent a letter calling on Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy DeFoor to publicly release the results of an audit of the state’s automatic voter registration system and its integration with the Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE). The letter, signed by AFPI Pennsylvania Chair and Mayor of Slippery Rock, PA Jondavid "JD" Longo and AFPI Pennsylvania Chair Mary Stiffler, asserts that the delayed release of results reflects "either gross administrative incompetence or a conscious indifference to public accountability."
The audit, requested by AFPI in August 2024, was triggered by concerns about the integrity of Pennsylvania’s voter registration database, including the risk that ineligible individuals may be registered through the automatic system. Nearly eighteen months later, Pennsylvanians still have no final report, interim findings, or clear explanation for the delay, raising additional questions about DeFoor’s commitment to public transparency and accountability.
"Transparency is the cornerstone of a healthy Republic." said Jondavid "JD" Longo, Chair of AFPI Pennsylvania."This unexplained delay in the audit’s release not only fuels doubts but also risks disenfranchising voters by allowing flaws in our system to persist unchecked."
Mary Stiffler, Executive Director of AFPI Pennsylvania, added that the extended delay has undermined public confidence:
“We have remained patient through the near 18-month process and find it surprising and disappointing that Auditor General DeFoor and Secretary of Transportation Carroll do not share our sense of urgency to ensure the integrity of Pennsylvania voter rolls.”
In the letter, AFPI demanded that the Auditor General’s office immediately release interim findings, provide a firm completion date, issue a public status report, disclose obstacles that delayed the audit, and commit to releasing the final report in full.
