Matt Whitaker joined Varney & Co. on Fox Business to discuss the weaponization of justice.
Former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker joined Varney & Co. on Fox Business to discuss the perceived politicization of the justice system, particularly in relation to Donald Trump's legal battles. Whitaker expressed his view that the conviction of Trump was heavily influenced by political motives, describing it as an "overaggressive politicized process" with alleged collusion between the judge and prosecutor in a highly Democratic jurisdiction.
Whitaker highlighted that key issues such as inflation and crime are more pressing concerns for most Americans compared to Trump's legal issues. He noted the potential expiration of corporate tax cuts in 2026 and upcoming national celebrations as important topics.
Regarding former Attorney General Eric Holder's concerns about the Supreme Court's decision on presidential immunity, Whitaker explained that the court would need to carefully balance the need to hold presidents accountable while protecting them from politically motivated prosecutions. He suggested that the court's focus would likely be on long-term implications for future presidencies rather than immediate impacts on Trump.
Whitaker also mentioned that if the Supreme Court grants some level of immunity to Trump, it could delay certain trials but would likely require further decisions on which actions were official duties and which were not. This process, he acknowledged, would take considerable time.
