Ohio Becomes the Latest to Commit to Returning Educational Authority to States and Parents
COLUMBUS, OH—The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) is supporting the national effort led by Secretary Linda McMahon to return education control from the U.S. Department of Education to the states and today, Ohio joined the growing movement. The Ohio Legislature’s swift resolution marks another victory in the fight to end federal control of education and restore educational authority to where it belongs: states, local communities, and parents.
AFPI has been educating members of state legislature on this critical mission. In Ohio, this collaboration has already produced results. The resolution establishes a Task Force for Educational Leadership that will deliver a comprehensive plan within 120 days in preparation to take full control of education programs currently run by Washington bureaucrats, including Title funds, special education, and civil rights enforcement.
State Senator Andrew Brenner, Chairman of the Senate Education Committee and a champion of the resolution, said, “I had the privilege of meeting with Secretary McMahon, Senator Moreno, and America First Policy Institute leadership in Senator McColley’s office to discuss a smooth transition that rightfully returns power to Ohio. Today, have we have delivered by being proactive as a State. Ohio is ready to lead the way in educational freedom and accountability to our families.”
There is no more important part of that laboratory than one’s education and freedom to learn. AFPI believes states are best positioned to lead education. Giving them the freedom to innovate and compete creates better options for families and stronger outcomes for students.”
Erika Donalds, Chair of Education Opportunity at AFPI, emphasized the growing momentum across the nation; saying, “Washington doesn’t know Ohio’s kids better than Ohio’s parents. This resolution is about restoring common sense and accountability by putting education decisions back where they belong - closer to families, classrooms, and communities. Ohio is stepping up to lead, and it’s exactly the direction the country needs to go.”
AFPI continues to work with states nationwide to support the devolution of educational authority from Washington, D.C., to state capitals, local school boards, and the kitchen table where accountability and responsiveness to families can be ensured.
