AFPI’s Ken Blackwell Submits Comment Supporting USPS Proposed Rule to Strengthen Mail-In Ballot Security
WASHINGTON, D.C. — America First Policy Institute (AFPI) Secure Elections Chairman J. Kenneth Blackwell issued the following statement, after submitting a public comment on the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) proposed rule amending the Mailing Standards of the USPS, Domestic Mail Manual, regarding the transmission of mail-in or absentee ballots for federal elections through the mail:
“Voters deserve confidence that when a ballot is mailed, it is identifiable, trackable, and protected from the moment it leaves the voter’s hand to the moment it reaches the election office.
The USPS proposed rule strengthens the chain of custody for mail-in ballots and improves processes for securing ballots while creating a stronger baseline standard for federal election mail across jurisdictions. These reforms would help election officials track ballots, reconcile how many ballots were mailed against how many were returned, reduce processing errors, and improve transparency in post-election audits.
As a former Secretary of State, I have administered elections and understand the importance of ballot security, chain of custody, and audit procedures. This proposed rule moves our election system closer to what every voter deserves: confidence that their ballot is counted as cast. AFPI supports this commonsense step to strengthen mail-in ballot security and protect the integrity of federal elections.”
