AFPI Responds to Supreme Court Ruling on USPS Mail Ballot Safeguards

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) applauds the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing the United States Postal Service (USPS) to continue preparing for implementation of a rule requiring ballot barcodes and other mail-ballot safeguards, reversing lower court action that had blocked the measures ahead of the midterms. The ruling comes days after USPS published the new rule partially implementing President Trump’s executive order on mail ballot security. The high court’s ruling is an important step toward ensuring the integrity of mail-in ballots, and AFPI has been engaged throughout this process, filing a public comment on the USPS rule, publishing a statement on that submission, and a commentary making the case for a secure ballot system.

“Accurate voter rolls and a secure mail ballot process are not partisan goals; they are basic prerequisites for public confidence in our elections. The Postal Service already sets detailed standards for how mail is prepared and tracked, and ballot mail deserves the same rigor,” said Ken Blackwell, AFPI’s chair of Election Security. “Election integrity isn’t a talking point for AFPI; it’s a bottom line. We’ll keep educating policymakers in Washington and the states until every American can trust the process, not just the outcome.”
